The Spring Street Tavern blends into the rest of the west end of Nazareth. It's a simple, two-story aluminum sided house with a few neon signs propped in its windows. But a handful of neighbors say the bar, at Spring Street , doesn't so much blend in as it blasts out. Stephanie Lilly, who lives close to the bar, said she can't sleep some nights because of the noise generated by the establishment and that she's seen people leave the bar as late as 4 a.
Lilly, with several other area residents who asked to remain anonymous in tow, spoke out at the borough council workshop meeting Aug. She said they saw a dancing pole and what they thought were near naked women in the bar.
Lilly said other residents are afraid to come forward, give their names and speak out. Keller said that local police become involved in nuisance bar problems when a bar's patrons leave the premises and break the law. Alan Koch, acting chief of police, said the borough received myriad calls about the tavern over the past few months and the department stepped up patrols in the area.
He also said no arrests have been made related to the tavern. Koch said he called the PLCB at the request of residents and filed a complaint. As for the dancing pole, Koch said it's legal and as long as the dancers remain clothed it's not a law enforcement concern. A lengthy slide show available on the bar's MySpace page titled "Go-Go Roadshow" detailed lap dances performed by at least one woman wearing a black bra, panties and a pink thong.
