Anytime I see a news story where the reporter is embedded in a war zone I think of Doug Vogt. Doug started his career as a photojournalist at what was then CFAC here in Lethbridge before spending many years covering conflict zones around the world. Shortly after that incident Doug graciously did a blog interview with me about that accident and his incredible career. You can check that out here:. Get us up to date.
Where are you, who are you working for and what are you doing? I mainly shoot their nightly stories for the daily broadcast with David Muir. That was How often do you think about that day and how has it affected your life today? The anguish from that day, the recovery and the way it has changed my life and the life of my family was strong.
But I feel I and my family have survived even stronger. When you see those reports from those correspondents what goes through your mind? Does it make you want to get back into those dangerous situations? But I admire those journalists that do. The situation in Gaza and in the Ukraine are extremely dangerous. As for journalists covering the war in Gaza, we have to admire those actually working in Gaza.
Being on the receiving end of that conflict, with nowhere to hide reminds me of the war in Sarajevo, but worse. It seems that many of the conflicts taking place now have many obstacles facing journalists. The main one is access. For western journalists to get any access to areas under Russian control is pretty much impossible. And when a western journalist is allowed the risks of arrests under false charges by the Russians is well known. Covering both sides of this conflict has been made impossible by the Russian authorities.
