After our wonderful visit to the town of Qaanaaq, Greenland, on the west coast of the continent, on Baffin Bay, we sailed south to Cape York. So, before lunch, we sailed a little further to the east to Savissivik, Greenland, on the west side of an island that is known as Meteorite Island explanation below. From Cape York we then sailed further south, overnight, to the small town of Kullorsuaq, Greenland, on Kullorsuaq Island, at the southern end of Melville Bay, itself part of the larger Baffin Bay.
Kullorsuaq was founded in and has around Inuit residents who rely on fishing and hunting. The harbor is free of ice between July and November. The town has a Pilersuisoq grocery store, two churches, a service building housing a laundry, showers, meeting room and hobby workshop , and a school that accommodates pupils from 1 st to 10 th grade.
The main industries are fishing and hunting for seals, narwhals, and belugas, with a large fish processing plant operated by a subsidiary of Royal Greenland, based in Nuuk located along the shore in the center of town.
