He gets onto one of the Tallink buses having evidently had no problem clearing customs with his Vanna Tallin haul. The yellow bus that runs to the centre eventually arrives, we pay the driver and climb on board. We grab a numbered ticket and make our way to the front of the queue and the counters. Some guy in the queue tries conversing with us in Spanish. Back at the bus station we buy an airport bus ticket for 3. We start our first day in Stockholm by getting the metro T-bana, tunnelbana to Gamla Stan, the small island which constitutes the old historic heart of the city, home to narrow cobbled streets and picturesque buildings.
Coming out of the metro we manage to wander into the changing of the guard ceremony as first we see a couple of rows of soldiers in neat dark blue uniforms with green berets and smart white gloves and gaiters holding old wooden rifles in one of the squares near the royal palace.
