Meet the invited guest groups, participating groups, and collaborative singing project groups that will be performing at HarbourVOICES! Founded in , AcaBella is an all-female, a cappella vocal ensemble. After creating friendships and discovering a common love of singing and performing through community musicals, choirs and dance, its members joined together to create a small a cappella group — and quickly fell in love with the medium. Over the years, AcaBella has performed a wide variety of musical styles from medieval madrigals to international folk songs.
Recently, their focus has been on contemporary music, often incorporating vocal percussion to their sound. Aurora is an auditioned ensemble that performs both a cappella and accompanied repertoire of all styles and in all languages — they seek to master a range of choral music with a focus on Canadian repertoire. Aurora holds at least two concerts and a fundraiser each season, as well as performing at various special events, shared concerts, workshops, festivals, and church services throughout the year.
Aurora was also proud to support the opening Gala for Teen Challenge NL, a residential addictions rehabilitation center for women. Their repertoire consists of popular and gospel music. The group sings mostly in 3-part harmony and sings repertoire consisting of folk, easy listening, pop, and light rock songs.
They compete every year at the Kiwanis Music Festival and hold 3 concerts per year as part of the recitals of Musically Inclined, the music studio from which they are based. In , the group took on its biggest undertaking yet and auditioned and were accepted to perform and compete at MusicFest Canada, The Nationals. They worked very hard and were very proud to walk away with a silver award. This year, the choir decided all of their repertoire would be music written by either Newfoundland or Canadian artists — they are proud to sing music reflective of their culture, and music that represents where they live.
