MODERN travel and communication technology has allowed people throughout the world to share their ideas and culture - yet there are still tribes in the far-flung corners of the globe who are almost completely cut off from the rest of us. These uncontacted tribes avoid or even violently try to deter visitors and offer a tantalising glimpse of a humanity unaffected by modern life and globalisation.
It is difficult to put a figure on the number of uncontacted people, but it is estimated that there are more than scattered throughout the world , but mainly in the wilds of Papua New Guinea and remote parts of South America. The inhabitants of a remote island in the Indian Ocean try to kill anybody attempting to visit them.
Just this month the villagers of North Sentinel Island, located between India and Burma, fired arrows at a passing camera crew that tried to document their way of living from the sea and air.
The Sentinelese are hunter-gatherers and are believed to have lived on the island for over 60, years but little else is known about them because of their hostility to outsiders. The crew's footage shows the inhabitants lining up on the beach with spears while others drew their bows and unleashed a volley of piercing arrows. One of the deadly projectiles even injured a member of the crew after their boat floated too near to the shore for their liking.
